About Our Health in Our Hands

I did not set out to learn so much about health.

Like many families, we simply wanted our children to feel well, to grow easily, and not have their days shaped by chronic health issues.

But that wasn’t our path.

Over the years, our family has navigated eczema, infertility, autoimmune challenges, chronic digestive issues, Oral Allergy Syndrome, diverticulitis, ADHD, and many other health questions that have led us to look more closely at what may be happening within our bodies.

Some answers came quickly.

Many did not.

There were seasons of searching.

Of trying one thing, then another.

Of listening to doctors, then discovering that our instincts sometimes lead us toward answers they could not yet see.

Of noticing patterns, making changes, and slowly beginning to understand what our bodies were trying to tell us.

What I’ve come to realize is this:

Health is not something we are simply handed.

It is something we have to learn to participate in.

Not perfectly.

Not all at once.

And often not without frustration.

This space is not about having all the answers.

It is about sharing what we’ve lived.

The questions we’ve asked.

The things we’ve tried.

The small shifts that have made a difference in our lives.

Here, I write about caring for children with health challenges while navigating some of my own, sharing our family’s experiences with ADHD, autoimmune conditions, chronic illness, infertility, and exploring both traditional and holistic approaches to healing.

Some of what I share may resonate.

Some may not.

And that’s okay.

Because every body is different.

Every path is personal.

But if there is one thing I’ve learned, it is this:

We are not as powerless as we sometimes feel.

There is a quiet strength in paying attention.

In learning.

In adjusting.

In trusting what we notice.

Our Health in Our Hands is a space for that kind of awareness.

A place to reflect, to explore, and to feel less alone in the process.

Because even when the path feels uncertain,

there is still something we can hold.

Something we can learn.

Something we can choose.

And sometimes, that is where healing begins.

I will be here each week sharing more of our story --

the struggles, the discoveries, the setbacks, and the things that have helped along the way. I hope you will join me.

You are always welcome here.
