A Guided Practice from Where Gratitude Grows
There’s something about nature that asks us to slow down.
To watch.
To listen.
To notice the beauty.
To feel the rhythm.
I often find myself drawn to the beach.
Sometimes I walk with my thoughts.
Sometimes I sit and watch the water or a sunrise.
Sometimes I close my eyes and breathe.
Today, I'd like to invite you to do the same.
If you don't live near the beach, perhaps you have a favorite park, a quiet stream, or a shady place beneath a tree. Even if nature isn't close by, you can still pause and notice the steady rhythm around you.
Wherever you are, simply find a place where you can settle into the natural rhythm around you and sit with it for a little while.
Take a moment to get comfortable.
Close your eyes.
Listen to the waves...
the wind rustling through the leaves...
the water moving through a stream...
or even the steady rhythm of distant traffic.
Whatever sounds surround you, simply notice them.
Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose.
Hold it gently for a moment.
Now breathe out slowly through your mouth.
Again...
Breathe in.
Feel your lungs fill completely.
Hold it until your body is ready...
then slowly breathe out through your mouth.
Keep exhaling until your lungs feel empty.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Again...
Relax your jaw.
Notice the places your body may be holding tension, and with each breath, imagine the water gently carrying a little of that tension away.
If thoughts come into your mind, simply notice them and let them drift away, gently bringing your attention back to your breath and the rhythm around you.
For just a few moments, simply allow yourself to be here.
Breathing.
Listening.
Being present.
When you're ready, slowly open your eyes.
Notice one beautiful thing around you that you hadn't noticed before.
Perhaps it's the sound of a bird.
The warmth of the sun.
The breeze on your skin.
Or simply the quiet feeling inside you.
Taking a few quiet moments for yourself isn't selfish.
It's one small way of caring for your body, calming your mind, and creating space to simply be.
When we slow down, we often return to our lives a little more grounded...
a little more present...
and a little more able to notice the beauty that was there all along.
You're always welcome here.
