A Quiet Moment ~ 006

When the Weather Wasn't Perfect

One of my favorite memories with my husband happened on a golf trip to Palm Springs.

It was over 110 degrees.

We had to start golfing before the sun came up and be finished by eleven or twelve because it simply became too hot.

One morning, around nine, it was already stifling.

And then it started pouring rain.

We kept playing.

Apparently, so did the group in front of us.

At one point, one of the men ahead of us took a swing near the water. His club slipped right out of his hands and went flying into the lake.

We all lost it.

There we were, practically alone on a golf course in Palm Springs, soaked, muddy, ridiculously hot and laughing.

I also made one of the best shots I've ever made that day. I got par on a hole I'd seen played in tournaments, where you have to hit the ball onto an island.

I still remember that shot.

But strangely, it isn't the thing I remember most.

I remember getting soaked.

I remember the mud.

I remember that golf club flying into the lake.

And mostly, I remember laughing with my husband.

We spend so much time waiting for the right conditions.

When the weather is nicer.

When we have more time.

When everything lines up the way we imagined it would.

But some of the best moments of our lives happen when absolutely nothing goes according to plan.

Sometimes the rain doesn't ruin the day.

Sometimes it's the reason you remember it.

May you notice a quiet moment of your own today.
